As the literature from attachment, neuroscience and trauma informed practice continues to explode, I have tried to create resources that will be helpful to mental health providers in your assessment, treatment planning and intervention decision making ... please let me know how these resources may be helpful to you and how I can continue to improve these resources gathered from the current literature I have read ...

My dissertation focused on improving the knowledge, attitudes, and assessment and intervention behaviors of mental health providers who worked primarily with children with externalizing behaviors. Please find below a copy of my final dissertation ... Thanks to Providence Service Corporation for being so engaged and supportive of the completion of this course and research study !!

Through my course of study ... I found it helpful to visually think of the phases of treatment for my clients and how the interventions I was selecting should target the client's focus and ability to process information. Looking out so many models, this is my adaption of trauma informed approaches to working with clients who have experienced trauma

Understanding how to complete a through trauma informed assessment that is in keeping with NCTSN guideline is important for all partners in the system of care to understand. This resource is an excellent training for mental health professionals to begin to explore how they can complete a comprehensive trauma informed of assessment.

"In 2005, the Chadwick Center for Children and Families created the intervention model, Assessment-Based Treatment for Traumatized Children: A Trauma Assessment Pathway (TAP) with support from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), as part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN).  TAP incorporates a multifaceted assessment process to enable clinicians to gain an in-depth understanding of the child, their developmental level, their traumatic experience, and the family, community and cultural system in which the child lives.  This information is used to effectively triage and treat the child and family and to assist the clinician in making decisions throughout the treatment process." http://www.chadwickcenter.org/TAP/tap.htm

Incorporating good quality standardized assessment tools within good quality clinical interviews is so important to partnering with children and adults and collaboratively developing a meaningful treatment plan ... over time I have scanned the literature for good tools for children and created a table of these tools. Please remember there are so many more !!  I love getting folks emails and being taught about new progessive measurement tools ... so please share (:

Also please check out the NCTSN website on the Links to TIC resources page ... I find them to be the leader in helping us stay current with practical tools. The TAPS training link there is excellent ...
